This assertion is based on historical maps and ancient records, but it faces significant legal and diplomatic challenges. In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines, declaring China's claims baseless under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). For the Philippines, the West Philippine Sea is not just a matter of national pride but a critical economic lifeline. The area is rich in marine biodiversity and is believed to hold vast reserves of oil and natural gas. For a developing nation like the Philippines, these resources are crucial for energy security and economic development. As President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. takes the helm, the challenge remains: how to navigate the delicate balance between asserting national rights and maintaining regional stability. The strategic importance of the West Philippine Sea cannot be overstated. It is a vital maritime corridor through which a significant portion of global trade passes. The sea lanes are essential for economic security not just for the Philippines, but for the entire region. The conflict over the West Philippine Sea is more than a territorial dispute; it is a contest over principles and the future of regional order. For the Philippines, it is a fight for sovereignty, resources, and the right to a prosperous future. Anchor Publication's Inaugural Summit Marks Relaunch with 'LAOM' Magazine Debut and Achievements Celebration

The Anchor Publication, the official student publication of the University of Cebu – Maritime Education and Training Center, held its inaugural Anchor Summit to celebrate the relaunch, revival, achievements, and accomplishments of the organization. A highlight of the event was the launch of Anchor’s newest magazine, “LAOM.” The Summit began with formal opening remarks by Campus Director and Dean of the College of Maritime Education, Capt.
