In commemoration of the National Women’s Month, the University of Cebu – Maritime Education and Training Center (UC-METC) has inaugurated a groundbreaking initiative by introducing the Maritime Women’s Empowerment Association (MWEA), a student organization dedicated to fostering empowerment among enrolled cadettes on campus.

During the inaugural meeting, held on March 10, MWEA members deliberated on proposed activities and outlined the responsibilities of the newly elected officers. Deck Cadette Nicole Marie Cabije was elected as president, leading the discussion and setting the tone for the association's future endeavors.

“As the new president of this organization, I am very much delighted in knowing that a women’s organization has finally been created here at UC-METC. Through the MWEA, we aim that the voices of women in the maritime industry are heard,” Cabije said.

The induction ceremony for the newly elected officers was presided over by Engr. Vicente Miñoza, Director of the Student Affairs Office (SAO), underscoring the university's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote gender inclusivity and empower women in the maritime industry.

MWEA, the brainchild of UC-METC, is committed to cultivating a supportive and secure environment for female students while providing them with opportunities for empowerment. The association's inception aligns with the university's ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
